Gustavo Riffo wanted to play soccer, but he came back to the family business after working harvests in Sonoma, Jura, and Priorat. Although Chile’s Itata Valley is known for Pais-based gulping Pipeño, Riffo and family make this fine single-parcel Grenache grown 360 feet above sea level. The fruit is macerated on the skins and fermented with native yeast for 15 days in vats made of local Rauli hardwood. The grapes were pressed into used barrels and aged 12 months before being bottled unfined/unfiltered. Try this earthy, spicy, aromatic, savory, medium-bodied, and wonderfully expressive wild-terroir wine with bold Middle Eastern cuisine. Low in sulfites.
