After his father Lucien died in 2017, Guillaume Camus has since taken over at Camus-Bruchon as owner/winemaker and now makes Chorey, Clos du Roi, several Premier Cru Savigny, Bourgogne Rouge, and a few old-vine Lieux Dits on Lutte-raisonnée vineyards. Adjacent to the 1er Crus is "Aux Grands Liards", planted between 1916 and 1922. The hand-harvested fruit grows in clay & limestone soils and undergoes partial whole-cluster fermentation and aging in French oak barrels for 12 to 15 months (30% new). The result is classic, complex, medium-bodied, Beaune Rouge with plump dark fruit, minerals, black earth, a touch of sauvage, and age-worthy tannins. While Lieux Dit Savigny is no longer the bargain it once was, it's still cheaper than 1er Cru and delivers plenty of value.
