Salvatore Marino, Turi for short, is an artisanal soapmaker when he's not tending vines within the Eloro DOC. He gained experience at bulk wineries at home and abroad but decided to make the opposite of those products on his 37-acre polyculture farm (17 acres of vines) around Pachino. Turi Rosso is destemmed organic Nero d'Avola (95%) and Pignatello fermented steel with native yeasts, aged in concrete, and bottled unfiltered -- just in time for summer. Although this warm-weather sipper undergoes a short maceration, the tannins are a hardy complement to the juicy dark fruit with high acids, thus pairing well with oily fish, grilled veggies, pasta, and white proteins. For all the art history majors, the artwork is inspired by the Futurism movement of early 20th century Italy.
