Flaccianello della Pieve was initially classified as "Colli Toscana Centrale IGT" because it did not meet the DOCG Chianti requirements. Although regulations have changed, the name remains for this flagship wine. It is crafted from Fontodi’s finest Conca d'Oro Sangiovese, fermented in steel and aged in French oak.
The 1994 vintage, which spent 18 months in barrels (50% new), presents a fantastic opportunity to try a 30-year-old Sangiovese. This is all about sweet, dusty leather, dried fruit, cherry preserves, cocoa, and maraschinos over velvety tannins and balancing acidity. Enjoy now. Decant if you’re bothered by sediment.
