Fontodi Chianti Classico is organic 100% Sangiovese gathered from various vineyards across the property in Panzano's Conca d'Oro. All the fruit is fermented in steel with indigenous yeasts for three weeks and aged in larger casks and French oak for at least 18 months. Unlike Fontodi's Flaccianello della Pieve and Vigna del Sorbo, this Classico is approachable now or able to rest in the cellar as long as you can resist it.
With 20-22 months in barrel (65% large cask and 35% neutral French oak barrel), 2021 is practically a Riserva—hence the slightly elevated price tag from 2020. While you can readily enjoy the 2021 in half bottles right now, we suggest letting the full bottle rest for a few years to unlock its full potential, featuring ripe fruit, chocolate-covered cherries, spice, incense, sage, pine, espresso, crushed gravel, Italian plum, and mulberries. Enjoy over the next 20 years.
