After working at Pomerol's acclaimed Château L’Église Clinet for 20 years, Jean-Claude Giraud returned to his family estate just north in Lalande-de-Pomerol, where the wine is far more accessible for everyday drinking. Giraud expanded Château Le Manoir from 2.5 acres to 12.25 while maintaining his father's old-world standards of chemical-free, low-intervention farming. Cuvee de Viaud is a blend of old-vine Merlot (80%) plus 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cab Franc aged 14 months in French oak. 2019 was a great vintage for ripe Bordeaux, and this bottling is fully mature and full-bodied with dark fruit notes, plum, sandalwood, leather, and a touch of barnyard on a soft finish. It drinks like a Claret that's twice as expensive and twice as old.
