Husband and wife team Tom & Marilyn Stolpman dreamed of owning a winery while honeymooning in Napa in the 1980s. Well, dreams come true, and the couple founded Stolpman Vineyards in Ballard Canyon AVA of Santa Barbara County a few years later. With the help of local talent, the Stolpmans have created a multitude of organic wines under the categories of Stolpman Estate, Solorzano Projects, Classics, Combe, and La Cuadrilla.
The Combe line is an experiment in growing unusual varietals in the dry climate of Ballard Canyon. Usually found in Arbois, France, as a blending component, Trousseau is light and mildly interesting. However, it reaches new heights of expression in the Central Coast. Combe is light in color but incredibly aromatic, crunchy, and quaffable, with notes of Earl Grey tea, rhubarb, cherries, lavender, citrus, and minerals.
