This is a real Beaujolais that posed as a Nouveau last year. Yes, it was ready by the third week of November, but Domaine Chermette makes Origine the same way they do their high-end Cru wines. Using old-vine estate Gamay from 20 acres in Saint Verand, Origine is vinified without any lab yeasts or added sugars. At 12% ABV, it's grapey with notes of kirsch, cola, and roasted pears. And with enough tannin and acidity, Origine will not disintegrate like the mass-produced Nouveau but improve--especially in the magnum format. Chermette makes for a great party wine during Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can't do better for $36 mag!
