Back in the 1960s, Dino Ciacci was producing wine alongside olive oil and cheese, but the farm changed after a devastating frost, leading to a new focus on winemaking. Joined by his stepdaughter, Pamela, Tiziano and family oversee nearly 100 acres of vineyards plus a few acres of olive groves. We must like Mocali because we have their Brunello, Morellino, and this Rosso di Montalcino. The 2019 is a fully mature, structured Sangiovese with hints of black and blue fruit, root beer, licorice, and forest floor — and it comes in a cool, skinny bottle. Aged 12 months in large French oak casks for unmatched complexity at this price range.
