Flaccianello della Pieve was initially classified as "Colli Toscana Centrale IGT" because it did not meet the DOCG Chianti requirements. Although regulations have changed, the name remains for this flagship wine. It is crafted from Fontodi’s finest organic Sangiovese in Panzano’s Conco d’Oro.
2003 is fermented in steel with indigenous yeast and aged in French oak for at least 24 months, with 50% new barrels. It was a hot year, so this is a big, dense wine with loads of berry compote, balsamic, cherry pie, licorice, currants, minerals, and leather. Even after 20 years, the tannic/acid structure remains as a refreshing backdrop.
