Dow's 2016 is their first generally declared vintage since 2011. Winemakers Charles Symington, Pedro Sousa (Quinta Bomfim), and Ricardo Carvalho (Quinta Senhora da Ribeira) crafted an intense blend of Touriga Franca (48%), Touriga Nacional (31%), Sousão (11%), old mixed vines (6%), and Alicante Bouschet (4%), mainly from Bomfim (52%) and Senhora da Ribeira fruit. It bears remembering that Port wine is usually a blend of quintas (estates) making wines on various terroir along the Douro Valley. This 2016 wine is vivacious yet reserved, and you only have to wait until 2030 for peak drinking. Or you can buy several bottles and decant one now to enjoy youthful flowers, plum, and blueberry notes against drying tannins. Best from 2030-2055.
