John Graham (of the Graham's Port dynasty) opened his Port house in 1981 and named it after his first wife, Caroline Churchill. About twenty years later, Churchill lost its fruit source but was lucky enough to purchase the 100-hectare Quinta da Gricha and the 12-hectare Quinta do Rio. With estate fruit, a lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, and offices in London, Churchill's can take its place next to the other historic houses with a full range of Vintage, Crusted, LBV, and Tawny Ports. Churchill's 10-Year Tawny comes in a clear bottle so you can see the beautiful brick-red color, which entices you to open it and savor notes of roasted nuts, praline, cherries, chunky orange marmalade, dried fruit, and spice. Serve cool with desserts made of fruit, nuts, or dairy, and aged cheeses.
