Situated on the central-eastern coast of North Island, Hawke's Bay is the second largest region after Marlborough (South Island). Te Mata (named after a mythical giant) was established in 1896 by the Chambers family and boasts the oldest vineyards in New Zealand. Since 1974, it has been under the care of the Buck & Morris families, who have been fantastic ambassadors for North Island wine. Their Sauvignon Blanc is 100% estate fruit in the "classic" style with more pronounced notes of gooseberry, aromatic herbs, guava, grapefruit, and sea mist supported by steely acidity. We love this with seafood and difficult-to-pair items like spinach, asparagus, bell peppers, fresh tomatoes, and anything seasoned with basil, tarragon, cilantro, and dill.
