Owner/winemaker Laurent Laurent Charrier runs the small winery with his mother. Their main wines are produced in Saumur, but they also make this lovely organic IGP Grolleau Noir. Although Grolleau is an old grape, it’s never been considered a noble grape, but we think you should give this one a try. Named for the surrounding linden trees, “Sous le Tilleul” is a semi-carbon wine made from a 50/50 blend of pressed/free-run juice vinified in steel. Medium-bodied, round, and soft with notes of strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. Acidity is well balanced—a pleasant light red for any occasion. Serve cool.
