The handsome label doesn't tell you much. In fact, "1000L" makes no sense to most people, so let's start there. It refers to the smallish 1000 liter (264 gallon) "fass" or fuder, a traditional barrel used in the Mosel, where Julien Haart makes wine in Piesport with some serious Grand Cru fruit from Goldtröpfchen and Ohligsberg. 1000L is basically declassified Piesporter Goldtröpfchen vinified to a dry 11% abv. Unlike some previous vintages, there isn’t even a hint of sugar in this dry, savory, mineral-driven Riesling loaded with apple, citrus, flowers, and nervy acidity. This is not your usual spicy Asian food Riesling, but better with boiled sausage & cabbage, breaded cutlets and fish, or roasted white proteins. Now, if you have any leftover on the second or third day, you can reap the benefits with lusher stonefuit and petrol notees.
