Domaine Cheveau is a small family winery specializing in Mâconnais Chardonnay, such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Mâcon-Solutré-Pouilly, Bourgogne Blanc, and a tiny amount of Gamay and Chardonnay grown in the adjacent Beaujolais region. Most people have never tried a white Beaujolais-Villages, and for a good reason: winemakers are prohibited from planting more than a small percentage of any white varietals, so most don't bother. Since Michel Cheveau and his two sons, Nicolas and Julien, are so skilled with Chardonnay, we're lucky to have Les Pouliches ("the fillies"), a young-vine Chard aged for 11 months in stainless steel. Unlike the flabbier versions of Beaujolais Blanc, this is lean and linear with defined notes of puckering green apple & lemon acids and minerals. If you like super crisp wines like Sancerre, Chablis, Muscadet, and alpine whites, then try Les Pouliches. It has been a major hit this year!
