Named after an old farmhouse, Cieck is a 32-acre winery in northern Piedmont at the foot of the Alps. Local varieties include the usual red grapes like Nebbiolo and Barbera, but Erbaluce is a white varietal native to the Canavese district. Carved out by an ancient glacier that brought mineral-rich soils, the terroir is so well suited to Erbaluce that Cieck makes sparkling, sweet, and dry variations. This steel-aged and crisp Erbaluce is straw-colored with a nose of blossoms and citrus, a lively, aromatic palate, and minerals on the finish. Pair with creamy pasta, fish, and antipasto. Take a break from the usual Pinot Grigio ot Sauvignon Blanc and try Erbaluce instead.
