D'Armailhac has a long and fascinating history. The vineyards date back to the 14th century, when they were part of a feudal estate spanning 5,000 acres. In 1660, the d'Armailhacq family took over, and by 1855, Château Mouton-d'Armailhacq had gained classification as one of the eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths). In 1933, the Rothschild family acquired the chateau and changed its name several times until 1989, when Baroness Philippine reverted to the original name, d'Armailhac.
2016 is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, exhibiting a fuller medium-bodied palate with notes of bramble fruit, flowers, graphite, cedar, cassis, licorice, and savory herbs. Drink this excellent Pauillac from 2025 to 2050. Always a great gift.
