Easily recognizable by its dragon boat label, Beychevelle used to be an affordable Bordeaux staple. Not anymore, but it’s still a classic St.-Julien that has maintained its place in any well-stocked cellar. 2016 was an excellent vintage for the estate with a fuller-bodied blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged 18 months in 50% new oak and 50% old oak. The palate of stones, roses, herbs, cassis, leather, and olives has softened enough to start enjoying after 2026, but you can keep this for many more years.
