Just off the Mediterranean coast, this domaine in the commune of Castelnau-de-Guers dates back to the 1300s. Given that most Picpoul de Pinet is made by co-ops, we appreciate that Domaine de Castelnau remains a family winery owned by Christophe & Beatrice Muret. Out of 240 acres, they have 32 acres of Picpoul/Piquepoul planted amongst garrigue and pine trees near the great Thau Basin, where flamingos love to hang out and fish. Cuvée L’Etang is steel-vinified to highlight notes of citrus, crushed stones, brine, and stone fruit. Lighter medium-bodied, refreshing, elegant, clean, and perfect with shellfish.
