Charles Bieler is a winemaking juggernaut with colabs around the world, but no project is more important than the one he has with his father at Bieler Pere et Fils. After selling Chateau Routas in 2005, the family has been dedicated to making classic Provence style of rosé, for which there is no substitute. Located right on the Mediterranean Sea, Bandol is a special sub-region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Its wines are Mourvedre-dominant, dry, structured, and meant for aging. They're generally expensive, but leave it to Bieler to offer an affordable Bandol. 2024 is 79% Mourvedre and 21% Cinsault from the village of Le Castelle. After steel fermentation with indigenous yeast and steel-aging, the Reserve exhibits clear notes of blood orange, red berries, sea salt, and Provence herbs. Fuller medium-bodied, structured yet creamy, and totally dry. Try with fish soups, grilled fish and meat, and bean salads.
