Tepache (te-PAH-chay) might be new to us, but this "cider" dates back to the pre-Columbian Nahua people of Mexico. What began as a way to ferment fruit scraps into a refreshing low-alcohol drink, Sazon produces its modern Tepache in the Pacific state of Nayarit from whole hand-picked honey pineapples (piña miel), Ceylon cinnamon (canela) and local piloncillo (raw brown sugar), fermented to 7% ABV. Flavorwise, it's an ale-colored cross between funky farmhouse cider and probiotic kombucha with notes of grilled pineapple, cinnamon stick, and sea salt—a pleasant doughy sourness balances the off-dry sweetness. Drink straight, over ice with lime, or add your favorite Rum, Vodka, or Agave spirit.
