Already extra crisp, dry, and loaded with minerals from silex soils, this Sauvignon Blanc has an additional dose of minerals imparted by Le Carroir, a distinctive 3.7-acre Lieu-Dit prized for its high flint content. The wine is fermented and lees-aged in a combination of barrels, vats, and steel for a well rounded palate. A no-brainer for any fan of Sancerre, or Chablis for that matter.
There's more to Loire Sauvignon Blanc than Sancerre. The region is also home to Quincy, Reuilly, Pouilly-Fumé, and Menetou-Salon. Less than 20 miles southwest of Sancerre is Menetou-Salon, a small commune at one-fifth the size. Historical records show vineyards were planted 1000 years ago, so local Monestrosaloniens are intimately acquainted with Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, the other traditional grape. Paul-Henry Pellé is the fourth-generation winemaker to grow these varietals in the village of Morogues using organic farming practices and no weed killers or pesticides for the purest expression of terroir.
