Named after the local word for tavern, La Posta is a line of wines begun by Laura Catena in 2002. She intended to feature local varietals grown in single vineyards. All the fruit for this Malbec comes from the Pizzella Family vineyard in Uco Valley's district of Altamira. Growing at 3,600 feet above sea level in lime and gravel soils, decade-old ungrafted vines yield robust fruit that's hand-picked, fermented in steel, and aged ten months: 50% in steel and the other portion in French oak barrels, both old and new. La Posta is a classic fuller-bodied Malbec with dense black fruit, cocoa, plum jam, spice, cedar notes, and sturdy tannins. It's a fantastic wine for BBQ or winter feasts.
