Most Italian Pinot Grigio comes from Alto Adige or Friuli-Venezia Giulia, but Bruno Verdi hails from Oltrepo Pavese in Lombardy (30 miles south of Milan and 50 miles north of Genoa). While it is true that so many Pinot Grigios are unremarkable, this stainless steel-fermented/aged wine shows the grape in its best light with apricot kernels, flowers, herbs, and ripe stone fruit with loads of citrus. There's even a hint of hazelnut and bee pollen. Try it with alpine cheeses and cured meats. It's also great with fish.
