Located about a mile northwest of Villie-Morgon lies the hamlet of Corcelette hamlet, which has only a tool supplier and two wineries, including Daniel Bouland's 20 acres of Gamay. Apparently, Bouland is a recluse, so this is a good place for him to work quietly alongside his daughter, Melanie, the 5th generation. Although Bouland makes a little Brouilly and Chiroubles, old-vine Morgon is his focus. Corcelette fruit comes from either Sable (sandy soil) or Cailloux (stony) and undergoes 100% whole-bunch semi-carbonic fermentation before aging in neutral oak. Unlike so many of the current Morgon, Cailloux is unapologetically old-school and rustic, with a dense palate of dark fruit, flowers, tannin, licorice, and earth. It needs a few more years of aging, but you can decant now.
