Chateau Grand Launay is the epitome of classic, well-made Bordeaux. As a neighbor of Pomerol, Cotes de Bourg is overshadowed by more famous Right Bank appellations, but this large AOC of 4000 acres offers a wealth of value-driven options. Owner/winemaker Pierre-Henri Cosyns blends organic Merlot (70%), Malbec (20%), and 5% each Cabernet & Franc, which are fermented in steel with indigenous yeast and aged in concrete and old wood. Launay exhibits old-vine fruit balanced by grippy tannins, blue plums, currants, and a smudge of savory fresh herbs and earth. Medium-bodied and easy to pair with roasts, mature cheeses, and stews.
