Sancerre has many fans who love its Sauvignon Blanc, but devotees are finding another gem made in the village, Pinot Noir - the only other grape in Sancerre. With the popularity and demand for its renowned Sauvignon, there is little room left for Pinot vines, and few winemakers can grow the grapes successfully. The Crochets grow Pinot on several distinct parcels, ferment whole clusters using natural yeasts, and age the wine in steel and barriques. However, they only make rosé in good years, so grab some while you can. Medium-bodied and dry, this is fuller and fruitier than in years past, when some of the rosé has been austere. The 2024 has lots of cherry, strawberry, and brambleberry offset by chunky minerals, and nervy acidity. Pair with summer salads, tomato, cold soups, pâté, and charcuterie.
