Cascina Luisin (founded by "little Luigi") is an old-school Barbaresco producer in its eighth generation under Roberto Minuto-- Little Luigi is his father. The winery has been selling wine from demijohns transported to Turin since the 19th century and making estate-bottled wine since 1913. Their main production is Cru Barbaresco and old-vine Barbera from 20 acres, but they also make "Ave" Arneis from a leased hillside plot between the communes of Castelinaldo and Vezza d'Alba in Roero. The fruit is steel-vinified to preserve its sumptuous palate of apricot, honeysuckle, anise, and preserved lemon. Arneis is so good with gnocchi in cream sauce alongside rabbit, game birds, or wild mushrooms. It also pairs with fish, butter, lemon, and risotto.
