Amrut (Sanskrit for 'nectar of immortality') was founded by the Jagdale family in Bangalore (southwest India, 200 miles west of Chennai) after India's independence from the United Kingdom, and they've been a pioneer in high-quality domestic spirits ever since. They make fine dark rum, but Whisky is their primary focus. The Single Malt is crafted from a base of barley grown in northwest India and aged in American oak and ex-Bourbon barrels, resulting in a blend of Old World/New World flavors on the textured palate with notes of lemon oil, fruit preserve, Indian spice, honey, pepper, citrus rind, and wood tannin. Unlike peaty Scotch or sweeter Bourbon, Amrut is grain-driven, dry yet soft and aromatic. 92 proof.
